Seating area with semi tropical planting design

A sociable and fun loving couple wanted a planting design to surround a newly built paved area. The area was intended to entertain their large family and friends in. We discussed at length all the possibilities. But with their love of travel, we decided on a planting plan that suggested somewhere far flung and easy going, would suit the site, the house and them very well.
Large boulders were installed, and sunk slightly into the reconditioned top soil. Palms, Phormiums and other structural plants were added to give year round interest and an exotic feel. And finally, perennials to give summer interest and variety.
